Alum Rock Union Elementary School District (ARUSD)
The Alum Rock Union Elementary School District operates 19 elementary schools (K-5) and 7 middle schools (6-8) in San Jose. Three of the ARUSD elementary schools – Dorsa, Cesar Chavez and San Antonio – are within the Alum Rock Community of East San Jose, our target community. GFS partners with ARUSD in many ways. We have programs in 11 schools within the District, including our Yes We Can...Read!Plus Program, and our PEI (Prevention and Early Intervention) Program. |
Amigos de Guadalupe
Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice and Empowerment (“Amigos”) was born out of a vision to break the cycle of poverty in the neighborhood comprising Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. The Parish has been a strong and stable presence in the Mayfair community since 1952 when it was first established as a mission. That spirit of mission continues today, as Amigos de Guadalupe creates a vibrant, self-sustaining Mayfair community by ensuring that the basic needs of our community and families are met, delivering high-quality educational programs, and activating and mobilizing for advocacy. Amigos de Guadalupe partners with GFS and 3 other local agencies, School of Arts & Culture, SOMOS Mayfair and Veggielution in the Sí Se Puede! Collective - 5 local agencies who are working together to promote greater community impact through joint advocacy and coordinated service delivery and accessibility. |
Children's Musical Theater San Jose
As a nationally acclaimed theater organization and the oldest performing arts organization in San Jose, CMT is a key provider of arts education and offers life-building opportunities for youth in Silicon Valley, improving test scores, class attendance, and self-esteem. Inclusiveness and quality are the two touchstones of CMT’s vision. CMT is dedicated to providing the highest possible caliber of musical and theatrical training to children from ages 4 to 20, spanning all abilities. Go Kids, Inc.
Go Kids operates 8 licensed Child Development Centers, providing services for infants, preschool and school age children in Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. GFS partners with Go Kids though our Family Engagement Professional Development Program. |
Raising A Reader (RAR)
RAR’s mission is to engage caregivers in a routine of book sharing with their children from birth through age eight to foster healthy brain development, healthy relationships, a love of reading, and the literacy skills critical for school success. GFS partners with RAR to bring the program to our Preschool and Child Enrichment families and young children. |
San Jose Public Library
The library enriches lives by fostering lifelong learning and by ensuring that every member of the community has access to a vast array of ideas and information. The San José Public Library partners with GFS in bringing Yes We Can Read! Plus to families in the Alum Rock School District. |
San Jose State University
San Jose State University is the oldest public university on the West Coast and the founding campus of the California State University system. GFS partners with the Child Development Department, which provides Reading Mentors for our Yes We Can…Read! Plus literacy and early math skill development program for kindergarten and 1st graders. |
Santa Clara County Office of Education Head Start
SCCOE Head Start programs support the growth and development of children birth through age 5. Head Start promotes school readiness of young children from low-income families through local programs. GFS partners with SCCOE Head Start through our Family Engagement Professional Development program. |
Santa Clara University
Santa Clara University is a private, Jesuit university whose strengths include four Centers of Distinction and nine Residential Learning Communities. SCU provides volunteers to support our programs through their Arrupe Partnerships program. Arrupe currently providers 6 students for two hours a week, students who take classes in fields related to their volunteer slots. These students support our work in the ESL classroom as well as in our toddler classroom. |
School of Arts & Culture
The School of Arts & Culture (SAC) strives to narrow the opportunity gap in arts education and learning; nurture the joy, creativity and well-being of our children; and unleash the talent of our next generation of students, leaders, artists and consumers of culture. SAC partners with GFS and 3 other local agencies in the Sí Se Puede! Collective. |
Stanford University
In 2012, researchers at Stanford University invited GFS to join them as a community partner in developing a new program for supporting parent engagement with young children. This program, called the Habla Conmigo Academy, was designed to empower Latino, Spanish-speaking parents from disadvantaged backgrounds to foster the language-rich home environments that help propel young children to success. Using materials from the curriculum developed in this collaboration, GFS developed a related program called Hablemos Juntos. |
Veggielution
Veggielution Community Farm was created in 2008 to help people make healthy food choices and provide opportunities for connecting with the natural world. We are fostering a sustainable food system through our urban farm that engages the community by providing access to organic and local food, creates youth leadership opportunities, and develops creative solutions to environmental and social justice issues. Veggielution partners with GFS and 3 other local agencies in the Sí Se Puede! Collective. |
