NuParent Class is an 8 week parent and child education and development program created by the Children’s Bureau. This program serves parents with newborns ages 0-6 months, not only offering information on child development, health and safety, discipline, and guidance, but also providing an opportunity for parents to bond and develop a relationship with their newborns.
Each session of the NuParent program has the same structure. First there is a parent/child activity, where parents have the opportunity to interact with their babies through music, movement, and infant massage. This followed by a Parent Enrichment section during which parents obtain up-to-date information on topics of concern for parents of newborns such as temperament, communication, development of the baby, and routines. Finally, each session ends with Social Support that offers an open forum for parents to exchange ideas and concerns with other families. This is also a time for sharing information on community resources.
The goals of the program are:
- To serve all parents who want “To be the best parent they can be” for their children.
- To enhance the skills and knowledge of parents and to meet the needs of their children during the formative years
- To provide guidance and support to all parents and to meet the needs of their children and learn how to enjoy the parenting experience.
- To provide parents with the most up-to-date parenting information and resources.
This program is offered on-site.
