Grail Family Services Adult Computer Program aims to increase access to technology for low income, minority, and limited English speaking residents of the East San José community. With input from community residents, GFS developed a stepping-stone curriculum designed to teach basic computer skills to first time computer users who are mono-lingual Spanish speakers with limited English skills and limited formal education. The curriculum is culturally appropriate and allows a person to enter with no knowledge about computers and design a course of study that meets their long-range goals. This program is evaluated using student self-assessments as well as a final exam scored by the instructor to test students for knowledge of the skills taught in the program.
The Adult Computer Program consists of three classes (taught in Spanish):
- Basic Computer Skills (Microsoft Word and the Internet)
- Advanced Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)
- Typing Skills
