The Children's Best for Achievement Program is an after school literacy program with a strong parent involvement component for 1st - 3rd grade students that are scoring between the 30 th and 60 th percentile on standardized tests for literacy. These children do not qualify for other school intervention programs but are not doing as well as needed to be up to grade level.

The program uses a structured curriculum developed by GFS. Evaluation of the children's literacy skills , their interest in reading , and the parents' participation in their children's literacy activities are conducting using pre- and post-test evaluation instruments. Evaluation results from 2003-2004 demonstrate that children increase their reading fluency, their listening and reading comprehension, and their interest in reading while participating in the BEST Program.

This program is offered both on-site and off-site.

The goals of the program are:
•  Improve children's basic literacy skills
•  Increase children's motivation for reading
•  Increase children's self-esteem
•  Increase parents' participation in their children literacy education
