Sonia Avitia

Sonia Avitia
President

Sonia Avitia is a long-time resident of East San Jose. She is currently the Sales Director for Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has worked with several non-profit organizations in the past and has an extensive career working with elected officials. She served as Senator John Vasconcellos's Executive Assistant and worked for Supervisor Blanca Alvarado and Mayor Ron Gonzalez. She is very passionate about supporting the community and strongly believes in the importance of promoting early literacy.

 

Gregg Margossian

Gregg Margossian
Vice President

Gregg came to San Jose in 1967 to begin his teaching career at San Antonio School in the Alum Rock School District. He found being a part of the San Antonio community so rewarding that he remained at the school until his retirement in 2005. Since his retirement from the classroom Gregg has maintained his involvement in the Alum Rock education community by serving as a mentor to new teachers. He also derives great satisfaction from being a volunteer docent at Point Lobos State Reserve near Carmel.

 

Phyllis Kizer

Phyllis Kizer is a native of South Bend, In with a degree in Education from Butler University. Moving to the San Francisco Bay Area after graduation, she has worked in numerous companies throughout the area. She is currently a Business Analyst at Cisco Systems, San Jose. Phyllis is in her second year as a volunteer with the “Yes We Can Read” initiative, imparting her love of reading to the children. Early in her work life, she was executive director of the Community Foundation of St Joseph County, South Bend, IN and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, San Jose, CA. As an avid quilter, she also volunteers at the Museum.

 

Diana Gilbert

Diana Gilbert is a CPA with over 18 years of audit, corporate and operational finance experience. Diana is currently a consultant with RoseRyan. She graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, concentration in Accounting. Diana is a long time volunteer with the Junior League of San Jose & KTEH Public Television. She has served in a wide variety of roles for Junior League of San Jose.

 

Lynn Boskie

Lynn Boskie

Lynn Boskie is a fifth grade teacher at Loyola Elementary School in Saratoga, She was the Principal at San Antonio Elementary School in the Alum Rock Elementary Union School District for several years. Prior to that, Lynn taught second and third grades and special education for 13 years at Lester Shields Elementary School. In addition to teaching, she coached softball for nine years. Lynn has a Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Education from San Jose State University.

Christina Mauro

Christina Mauro

Christina Mauro grew up in the Silicon Valley, and after going away to college to earn her Business/Finance degree, returned home to the Bay Area to get married and begin work. She is currently an employee of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Sunnyvale. Christina is an active member of the Junior League of San Jose.

Rosa Ruiz

Rosa Ruiz

Rosa has lived on the East side of San José since 1973 and has been involved with the Grail since 1975. She works as a registered nurse for the County of Santa Clara providing medical services through a clinic in East San José. She also has experience working with women's groups and with youth. She has a daughter who challenges her to grow on a daily basis.

Duanne Welsch

Duanne Welsch

Duanne Welsch is a retired senior administrative analyst from the University of California, Berkeley. She has been a Grail member since 1960 and has served on the National Finance Committee and Development Committee. Duanne has a BA in Geography from UC Berkeley and an MPA from the University of San Francisco.
