BILINGUAL (SPANISH/ENGLISH) FAMILY LITERACY ASSOCIATE

Position Summary:
GFS’s Family Literacy Associate is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and evaluating GFS’s family literacy programs for adults and their children. The Family Literacy Associate will work closely with other GFS staff to ensure the integration of the literacy programs at GFS as well as collaborate with GFS partner organizations. GFS is looking for someone who is enthusiastic, a self-starter, flexible and thrives in a diverse environment.
Responsibilities:
- Implement, organize and evaluate GFS’s family literacy programs
- Train and supervise volunteers from diverse backgrounds
- Collaborate with organizations who partner with GFS
- Facilitate family literacy programs on and off site
- Conduct outreach and recruit clients for GFS programs
- Support annual community literacy event
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish proficiency
- Background in early literacy
- Experience in facilitating groups
- Experience in working with parents
- Ability to work closely with different professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Represent GFS in community meetings and promote GFS programs in the community
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to complete reports as needed in an accurate & timely manner
- Proficient in use of computer software including MS Office and the Internet
- Must have valid California driver’s license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to make a one-year commitment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of child development
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Experience working with the population we serve and working with volunteers
- Strong public speaking abilities
Hours and Pay:
- Salary $30-35 K DOE
- Fulltime entry-level position; with evenings and/or weekend hours
